World Premiere Preview (July 18-20, 2008)

Earlier today the CEO of the company I work for between the hours of 9-5 looked at something I doodled and said to me, "Don't take this the wrong way, but with an imagination like yours, we should take you out back and have you shot."

I'm still not sure if there's a right or wrong way to take that.

Ten plays this week, brought to you by the imaginative ensemble of Caitlin, Steve, Heather, Dina, Bilal, and Ryan:
  • The Distance Between Us (Caitlin Stainken)
  • I, Exam (Bilal Dardai)
  • Thank you for thinking of me (Heather Riordan)
  • "What a bunch of bullshit" - I thought after writing this about myself (Ryan Walters)
  • Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Bad (Ryan Walters)
  • You'll Never See This Play (Dina Connolly)
  • a brief, mildly musical demonstration of how I was taught to give head, OR the nice things women some times do for each other (Dina Connolly)
  • Bar Wars (Steve Mosqueda)
  • Gas Money (Steve Mosqueda)
  • A Descent Man (Steve Mosqueda)
Was he saying that my imagination was dangerous or that it was unworthy of continued use? And why would a CEO say that to his employee even if there were a correct philosophical interpretation of the remark?

what did you draw???

As part of a Marketing exercise, we were asked to draw "glyphs" that represented us (a la Prince). Mine was a simple wheel-type thing, with a series of arrows jutting out as spokes, each with a 90-degree angle in it...really, just a doodle.

I smell a lawsuit for creating a hostile work environment through the company's intimation that non-creative employees will be summarily executed.

One could argue that the CEO demonstrated a more glaring lapse of creative aptitude by the narrow interpretation of what is "creative," thus making the CEO eligible for summary execution.

I, Exam is my favorite TMLMTBGB play!!! It blew me away!

Thank you for that, anonymous, it's very gratifying. Ironically, with my back to the audience, I haven't been able to see how that play was being received.

Sorry, I forgot to sign a name :)
I don't know if there's a system to keeping shows in the rotation, but I hope I, Exam stays in for a good long time.
Since seeing the show on Friday, I've been telling everyone I know in or even near Chicago that they HAVE to see it. I fell in love with you NeoFuturists, and am sorely sad to leave Chicago at the end of this trip.

With or without the imagination part, we ought to take you about and have you shot. Just sayin'.
